Scheduled jobs

Have your app do things on a schedule

Send a report every morning, tidy up old records every night, or check for new orders every fifteen minutes. Tell Roar AI when, and it runs that part of your app on time.

Ideas

What people use it for

Anything your app can do when someone opens a page, it can also do on a schedule.

01

Reports

Put together a summary each morning and email it to your team.

02

Staying in sync

Bring in new orders or contacts from another tool every few minutes.

03

Tidying up

Clear out old records, expired links or test data every night.

Included

What Roar AI takes care of

Running things on a schedule usually needs a server that never sleeps and someone to notice when it stops. Roar AI does both.

01

Runs on time

Roar AI keeps the clock, so your app does not have to stay awake waiting.

02

Tells you when something fails

After three failures in a row the app’s owner gets an email, and another once it works again.

03

Shows what happened

Each run records whether it worked and how long it took, so the last 20 runs are there at a glance.

04

Try it whenever you like

Run a job straight away from the console to check it does what you expect.

05

Works with private apps

A job still runs on an app that only some people can open.

How it works

Setting up a job

If you build with an AI assistant, you can ask it to set up the job for you.

01

Pick the part of your app to run

Choose the page in your app that does the work, such as the one that sends the report.

02

Choose when

Every few minutes, every day at a set time, or once a week. The console shows it back to you in plain words.

03

See how it went

Each run’s result is in your app’s settings, under Scheduled jobs.

Questions about scheduled jobs

What exactly does a job do?

A Roar AI job opens a page in your app, such as /api/cron/daily-report, at the times you choose. Whatever that page does, like sending an email or updating records, happens on schedule.

How do I stop strangers from triggering the same page?

Each call from Roar AI carries your app’s CRON_SECRET, which your app receives on its next deploy. Check for it in the page the job opens. Code written for other cron services that check CRON_SECRET works as it is.

How long can a job run?

Thirty seconds by default, and you can raise it to five minutes. For longer work, have the page answer straight away and carry on in the background.

What happens when a run fails?

Roar AI does not repeat it. The next scheduled run goes ahead as normal, and the owner gets an email after three failures in a row.

How many jobs can an app have?

Up to 20 jobs per app, each running as often as every minute. Roar AI keeps the last 20 runs of each.

Which time zone are schedules in?

UTC. The console shows each schedule in plain words with the time zone, for example “every day at 03:00 UTC”.
